Saturday March 8th was a big day for all three Westport/Weston FTC teams. Tournaments are always exciting, but this was even more so as it was the State Championship, and it was held in our home town. It was an honor to be visited by Westport’s First Selectman Jim Marpe and by Westport Schools Superintendent Elliott Landon. We explained to both of them about how our robot works. In his opening remarks the First Selectman told the audience that he was trained as an engineer!
In the competition we got off to a slow start, losing our first two matches. Then we rallied after lunch, and won the next three. In the Alliance Selection, we were the first choice of Team 36, the Wyverns. Our alliance was able to win four consecutive matches in order to become the Winning Alliance for the day! This allowed the Wyverns to qualify for the Super Regionals. Our team also won the Promote award, and our Compass Award video earned recognition for our coach.
On Friday March 7th, we met at our usual time. We spent lots of time preparing for the CT Championships on Saturday. This meant final checks on the robot, packing lots of equipment, and rehearsing our presentation. We also delivered many of our field parts to the Greens Farms Academy gym and helped them set up. We think we’re ready.
